発達心理学の基礎を築いたボールビィーは、特定の重要な養育者・親と子どもの絆、愛着行動が子どもの基本的信頼感の形成など健やかな成長に欠かせないとしてアタッチメントの概念をまとめました。その一方で彼の研究パートナーであったエイスワースは、親に限らず、里親など養育者（安全基地）の有効性と応答性をより重要視し、必ずしも血縁にこだわることはないとしました。今回のエピソードはそうした研究をほうふつとさせる物語だと思います。

Dr. Bowlby, one of the founding fathers of  Life Span Developmental Psychology, compiled an attachment theory confirming that this is essential for the formation of fundamental  trust/ healthy growth of children through the bonding efforts and attachement activities that are among specified group of important people involved...i.e. care givers, parents and children.

 

In the meantime, Dr. Ainsworth, one of Dr. Bowlby's  research partners highly regarded care-givers (as safety zone) represented mainly as foster-parents... as effective and responsive, who  don't have to be real parents themselves, and  concluded that we don't need to stick particularly to the blood-relation for the purpose presented here.
